New Bike. First Ride.

Finally, The much awaiting moment had arrived today morning 9:58AM. I got up fast, was there at Vadapalani’s Honda showroom to get my Brand new sexy “Honda Shine”. I was there in showroom for quite some time to finish all the required formalities and finally I got the bike in to my very own hands by 10.50AM.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzup !!!!! Having had a little bit of sentiment at an unknown and undiscovered corner of my heart, My bike’s first visit was to a famous murugan temple in Vadapalani. The darshan and puja at temple took another 1 Hr of my time. It was fun having a puja to my bike by a priest (Ayyangar) who doesn’t seem to know any thing, but still charged me 100/-.

Gurur Brahma !!! Gurur Vishnuh !!!

Guru Devo maheswarahan!!!!

Guru Ssakshath Parah Brahma !!

Tasmi Shri Guravee namah!!!

Our modern priest was supposed to spell out above four stanza’s. But, then he just managed with the first two bold-ed lines concatenating with “Blah Blah Blah blah”.  Ha ha ha ha..!!

However, After the successful puja, I decided to have my first long drive. Where else it can be ? To my office. Started from Vadapalani, Drove to Madhya kailash, and taken the OMR high way. It was fun have a ride on my bike.

It feels really, good when you have a freedom to go out wherever you want and when ever you want. Till now, I didn’t had that chance and Now……. ! It starts…

Photos of my bike follows soon….

Cheers,

Durga Prasad

An adventerous return from office

Hello All,

This is about one of the very bad experiences that I had yesterday during my return from office. I would rather call it an adventure than an experience. Hope every one is aware of the cyclone name NISHA in tamil nadu due to which, the roads in Chennai had to become rivers, chennai corporation may had to launch CITY BOATS in place of CITY BUSSES, All schools and colleges had to declare the holyday for 2 days, All the IT organizations had to Shut down their PC’s and servers, and ofcourse all the shop keepers had to say back at home.

If any one doesn’t have any info about this… Here are the links for you.

Well,

If all of you can zoom off your mind from all those links, I have some thing very funny to share wid you all. Aaaaah….!!! I still can not stop my laugh. Yesterday, as usual I started to office at 10.00 in the morning in a horrible weather. Since it was office bus, I was able to reach office safely. Later since we got a mail form the HR to leave office as early as possible because of the expected heavy rain, I started at 5.00PM from office. But, My attempt was unsuccessful because of the heavy rush in the office bus at that time.

So, being very smart, I went back to quadrant and continued my work. Once it is 7.00 PM, I cached another bus to my place and the bus had started safely. In just a 5 min, the rain started like hell and it almost drowned 1/4 of the bus all along the way. After reaching some distance, to my surprise, I could see all the busses that have started earlier standing there for the clear way. As per the information we get from somebody over there, It seems that there was a big traffic jam at some point 4-5 KM far away from where we are. So, the bus is expected to stand there on the road for another 3-4 hours. In a span of 1 hr that I waited in the bus, the bus had just moved a distance of 1 meter.

I repeat…. Its just ONE METER.

Experiencing that, I decided to start my march in the water on the road. I, with one of my collegue, walked along the road until we reach the nearest railway station. To re-phrase the previous sentence in reality,

We swam against the stream of rain water until we reach the nearest railway station.

If you are wondering about the distance details, its about 4-5 Km. I was actually reminded of the adventure trek that I had participated some time back with Chennai Trekkers. Yeah… This is no different than a trek except the lack of sloppy hill range and the cool breeze.

Hmm.. And finally after a journey of 5 1/2 hours, I reached home safely. And right at that point, I decided not to go to office the next day.

Here are some of the consequences because of this cyclone in chennai

1) Frequent Power Off’s.

2) Major commercial and House hold area’s like Velachery, saligramam are full of water.

3) The people living in the ground floors of the low lying area’s are forced to vacate their houses immediately.

4) A canal outflow near saligramam drowned 3/4th of saligramam.

5) Government had declared holiday for all schools and govt organizations.

6) Water didn’t leave entering the giant IT parks as well.

Having experienced this, My Dear readers…..

I suggest you not to take a chance to leave home in a bad weather.

So, All you chennites, Take care.

Stay at home.

Cheers,

Durga Prasad.

Busy mode of my IT life.

Well,

Being experienced 3 years of IT (Information Technology) life, I started to feel the weight of it. This is because of differnet reasons like increase in responsibility, Increase in work, Office being too far from my room, Too much time to travel to office, etc. When I started writing this post, I was reminded of  a Telugu song titled “Busy life…..! Busy Life…..! Busy life busy life… Student life”. But now I was thinking that the student life is the best of all time and the busy life is the Job life. For me, it is IT life.

I was reminded of my +2 days, where in I used to get up at 4.30 AM to study, and come back home only at 11.00PM. I still remember those days when I literally fought with my mom that I will not wake up at 4.30 AM. Think about it …… If I had to wake up at 4.30 in the morning, my mom used to wake up atleast half an hour before to get me up from my bed.

And in this mode of my life, my mom is not staying with me to wake me up on time and make every thing ready for me. It me who has to do every thing and believe me………….. Its hectic some times. Whewwwwww…!!!!! I still am not able to compromise on the concept of “Early to bed, Early to raise” as Mahatma Gandhi Says. I have customized the same statment as per my convinence as “Late to bed, Late to raise”. I was intensively trying to get up early from a long time, and it is still not possible. Since my managers are kind enough to accept my custom timings of 11.30 AM to <Any time>PM, I am able to survive better.

And yes, The travel to the office is the biggest issue that I am facing these days. Almost, three and a half hours of my precious day is simply getting wasted with the noisy travel through the roads of chennai. And since, the office is some where outside the city, I was not in a position to change my room there. And about GBH, its been weeks I had been to GBH. And even no plans of going for next few weeks because of my busy schedule on my weekends.

So Finally, I think we may have to get used to the busy schedules of our lives and start enjoying busyness itself.

May be I talked lot of nonsence in this post. But, its just a try to express my situation.

Have  a nice Day !!!!

Cheers,

Durga Prasad

Salam G4S (A reaction on an incident).

Hi All,

Last week has been a hectic week. Did lot of work, worked in a mixed shift(Morning+General+After Noon Shift) after a long time. I didn’t even have much time to sleep and to do other activities. The work is a bit cool now and finally got a chance to re-look at my blog.

Well,

This post is about one of the situations that has happened today morning in my office. A group of people from a particular relation, have been screaming at a security person just because he wanted to check their bags (Its his duty).

Our office will be secured day and night by G4S security services. All these guys came down straight away from Bhubaneswar to protect 5000 associates of our office. Their duties include the following things…….

  1. They Manage the buses that are going OUT and coming IN.
  2. They Check every associate, if they have ID card or not. (To restrict any alien to allow in the office).
  3. They make sure every associate swipes their card before entering in to their quadrants.
  4. They check the baggage, if any, of the associates. (To protect from any unwanted dangerous materials to enter in to the building).
  5. They Maintain the register of all the associates at every door entrance in each floor of the building.
  6. They welcome the big heads (Clients etc..) with their lovely professional band music.

I was really angry with one of the situations that has happened this morning. There was a group of people who used to come by a particular bus every day (They even control the driver of that bus). Today, when there entering the office building, as usual THE SECURITY asked a Guy in that group to open the bag and the show the things inside (I was walking behind him).

To my surprise, that guy started screaming at him using all the bad words in his own local language (which the security couldn’t understand). In reply security told him “This is an instruction from the admin sir? Its our duty….”. That still didn’t stop screaming at him and continued to do that….

I, witnessing all this, was thinking to react in the situation. But, for one sec I felt that there will be no use if I react at that point of time. So, I thought I would escalate this to the higher official. I felt very pity about the Hindi speaking security personal. Once the arrogant guy left that place, I went to security and spoke to him for a minute and expressed my concern to the mis-happening.

The security personal told me in Hindi with a gentle smile on his face “Hum ko har rooj aisa hi hota hein !!!!! sir….” (This will happen every day to us sir). Hmmm…..How bad is this..?? Why would some body want to check what is inside someone’s bag..?? What wrong in opening your bag..??

The security is working for us Day and night with out even having a seat (They have instructions not to sit during the duty hours). They are at least doing their duty. And without them, my corporate can not be called as a secured place to work.

I decided to escalate this to the higher official and called up an ADMIN head as soon as I reached my workplace. I explained him clearly about the things that are happening in the bus (controlling the driver) and also about the incident that happened with the security guy. He listened to me carefully and asked me the details of the people who are doing this nonsence and reacted well by implementing all the necessary steps. Whewwwwwwww….I am now cool (After reacting to this). I am sure that group will never repeat this once again.

Punch lines:

I start my day with ONE MINUTE TALK to the security person standing outside my quadrant.

I respect them as a fellow human being

I would react to the situations similar to the one explained above.

I would always be thankful to them as they are working day and night for me.

Salam G4S. Thanks for your service. Thanks alot.

I would be interested, if someone out there can tell me your reaction, if you witness such a situation in your life.

Cheers,

Durga Prasad.

Journey to United States – A Guide.

My friend, colleague Mr. Katta Chaitanya had recently traveled to Trumbull (Milford, US) for an onsite assignment. After he’s gone there, as an acknowledgment he has sent us a longest mail that i have ever seen in my life. I generally don’t read long mails but as this is from Chaitanya i had to read it.

This mail was very informative and funny. I can imagine him explaining to me with his unique style and expressions (shocking his shoulders all the time). Here goes the mail by chaitanya in his words……

Mail Begins:

Hi,

I reached to US safely.. The journey was nice. I got a window seat in both the flights.
From chennai to paris.. everything was nice.(cute lady.. Indian food..)
From paris to JFK(NewYork). It was good..(Nice man.. very helping..but no Indian food).

overall..It’s a very nice and a very different experience as everything was new for me..

To start with ..
Luggage clearance is the first activity that happens..Here you will get your boarding pass and immigration form…(Instead of filling I went to my parents and friends to meet bcoz once you go for Immigration clearance you can’t come back..)then comes the Immigration form filling and clearance..that’s it I was all set to board the flight. My Airlines was AirFrance and it was very good.
After the Immigration clearance.. search for the gate number in chennai airport for your respective airlines. for me it was gate6. There was a delay of 15 mins in boarding and 20 more mins for the takeoff (A small girl was crying and was out of her seat.. everyone should be in their seats with seat belts on.. there were 20 flights waiting for our flight to take off 🙂 ).
I boarded the flight and airhostess guided me to my seat#. I sat and was waiting to feel the experience of my first take off. The flight took off and can’t express my experience in words. I was delighted. after half an hour.. they served us food (a kind of breakfast). I was trying to operate the TV(a kind of learning) then had my breakfast and was looking from the window and the Geovision measurements(altitude, speed, # of miles travelled..etc etc).
